FarmIQ Knowledge System (RAG)

Supercharge your FarmIQ AI assistant with your own private documents and expert knowledge libraries. The RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) system allows the AI to "read" your farm records and answer questions based on your specific data.

In This Guide

1. How It Works

FarmIQ's RAG system works like a smart research assistant. Instead of relying solely on general knowledge, it builds a custom library for your farm.

1. You Upload

You upload PDF, Word, or Text files (e.g., "Soil Analysis 2024.pdf").

2. We Index

Our system reads, chunks, and organizes the text so the AI can understand it.

3. AI Answers

When you ask a question, the AI looks up relevant info from YOUR files first.

2. Uploading Documents

Supported Formats

  • PDF (.pdf): Best for reports, manuals, and scanned documents.
  • Word (.docx): Good for notes, plans, and letters.
  • Text (.txt): Simple notes or exported data logs.
  • Max Size: 20MB per file.

Steps to Upload

  1. Go to FarmIQ in the sidebar.
  2. Click on the Documents tab.
  3. Click the Upload Document area or drag & drop your file.
  4. Wait for the processing status to change from Processing to Completed.

What happens during "Processing"?

The system scans your document, extracts the text (even from some PDFs), breaks it into small searchable chunks, and indexes it. This usually takes 30-60 seconds depending on the file size.

3. Knowledge Packs

In addition to your own files, you can enable Curated Knowledge Packs. These are collections of expert research documents, manuals, and guides that we maintain.

Stops "Hallucinations"

Standard AI models can sometimes make up facts. Knowledge Packs force the AI to cite verified sources, ensuring answers are grounded in scientific reality, not guesses.

Trusted Expertise

Get answers from trusted agricultural extension services, veterinary manuals, and research papers—not random internet forums or outdated blog posts.

Managing Knowledge Packs

  1. Go to FarmIQ > Knowledge tab.
  2. You will see categories based on your farm's crops and livestock (e.g., "Cattle", "Maize").
  3. Toggle the switches ON for the topics you want the AI to know about.

Why toggle? Turning off irrelevant packs (e.g., turning off "Pigs" if you only have Cattle) helps the AI stay focused and give more accurate answers.

4. Chatting with Your Data

Once your documents are uploaded and processed, simply go to the Assistant tab and start chatting.

Example Questions

  • YOU"What were the recommendations from my last soil test?"
  • AI"According to the file 'Soil_Report_Oct2025.pdf', your pH is 5.8 and it is recommended to apply lime at a rate of 2 tons per hectare..."

Note: The AI will usually cite the document name it used to find the answer.

Your uploaded documents are strictly private. They are stored in a secure, isolated storage bucket with Row-Level Security (RLS) policies that enforce farm-only access. We use enterprise-grade AI APIs that do not use your data to train public models.
